I guess I fiddle around a lot with things that make water hot. That is a recent realization.
The mind that wanders is rarely bored. Mental wandering is how most of what you will find on this little site became reality. These wanders are what I do when I find myself in those spaces between responsibilities. You know, the work computer is locked up and won't process things that I am paid to do, or the airplane I am supposed to catch is changed somehow and now I have unexpected down-time at the airport, I am at my daughters all day piano lesson and I need to sketch or write or surf and I happen across a poem that reminds me of something, a Google search hauls in some unexpected little piece of trivia, that drive to Seattle, same old road and the mind wanders and WHOOSH! The trek begins. I lay in bed and try to solve problems in the projects I have laid out in the shop. Stuff that puts me to sleep really fast. But , Oh a lot of things get fixed and ideas happen in that gray twilight in your mind...
I have had a life long fascination with the term "Renaissance Man" -not that I am one mind you, but somebody that can master chopping wood, fire building, car repair, sculpting, coffee roasting, Ukulele's, Haiku, a little mountain climbing, cooking, spirit distilling and blah ,blah, blah seems to suit my flitting and tangential brain. It is kind of one of those- "So much to learn and so little time" things. Or it could just be more satisfying than an ADHD / Adult label. Whatever it is that leads me to this meandering stream bed I daydream in ......... it is fun ...and it goes all over the place. So you will find snipitts on these pages of some past and present travels that I will try to do justice but many will be just mentions as since they were before digital cameras etc. an image will have to be mental on your part.
If you are reading this and from the US, live steam and or steam boats may make no connection with you. The maritime culture of the UK seems the be the hot-bed for the live steam-passion as it is seen today. Australia, New Zealand and Germany all have pre-war steam engine roots as well. The US also has this steam history but it seems to be forgotten. So be it stationary , Traction engine ( tractor or steam roller or car)or boat--- steam is hot...at least to me and a few friends and still relevant!! Steam still powers ships like aircraft carriers and other large floaty things...The fuel is radioactive - but it just heats water and drives turbines...
Thanks for dropping by!
